School of Law signs MoU with Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law
The School of Law of the University of Nicosia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law (Max Planck-Institut für ausländisches uninternationales Strafrecht) to pursue research synergies and the organisation of joint activities in the field of international criminal law.
The Max Planck Foreign and International Criminal Law Institute, based in Freiburg, Germany, was founded in 1947 and became part of the Max Planck Society in 1966. Currently under the leadership of Ulrich Sieber and Hans-Jörg Albrecht, the Institute has come to be regarded as Germany’s leading research institute in the field of criminal law and criminology, while its library includes more than 400,000 titles in those fields.
The agreement covers various areas of scientific cooperation, providing for the undertaking of joint research activities, participation in scientific conferences and seminars, as well as other related activities, further enhancing the School of Law’s cooperation with leading research institutes and organisations. Responsibility for the implementation of the MoU on behalf of the School of Law has been undertaken by Nestor Kourakis, Professor of Criminology at UNIC and Emeritus Professor of the University of Athens.
